MAY 2: BEACH CLEANING IN ENOSHIMA
Thank you to all the J3 Honors students for their hard work today (Monday, May 2)!
As part of this term’s Ocean Awareness Project, the J3 Honors students took part in a beach cleaning event in Enoshima with grade 5 students from Tokyo International School (TIS) who were working for their IB PYP course or as part of their school’s eco-club.
We put the Kaetsu students into their Ocean Awareness project groups and two TIS students joined up with each of them. Then we had two groups join together to make 5 groups of 10~12 students. Each group was joined by a Grade 12 Kaetsu student and a teacher, and they walked together along the beach or the promenade picking up any litter they found.
The weather for the day was beautiful and it wasn’t too busy, so this was a perfect day for this activity.
After a break for lunch, we had a mini art competition. With the theme of ‘Oceans, Beach, Eco,’ groups had to set up a two–meter square area of sand and create an art piece. The competition was judged by our grade 12 students. The winning team won a small prize with their art piece representing the beauty of ocean life contrasted with pollution from plastics and other trash.
The photos below don’t really do justice to how great the day was. We really hope that everyone had a nice time, felt good about the event, and that they enjoyed the collaboration with the TIS students.
When we get back to school, we’ll have some time to reflect on the experience and students can use it to further inspire their projects!
Thank you again J3 Honors students!
