Day 5: 3.18 (Sat)
On Saturday, we met at Bell school. We jumped on a coach with other students from Bell and headed to London. It was a pretty smooth journey, and by 10:30, we were all standing across from the London Eye and Big Ben.
We started with a simple walking tour. We took photos of Big Ben and the house of parliament, and other popular spots all the way through Trafalgar Square up to Covent Garden. Along the way, Romeric, a teacher from Bell, gave a little history about some of the places. From Covent Garden, the students were free to explore.
Before coming on the trip, students made groups and set up their plans for the day. Some were interested in history and wanted to check out the popular museums. Some students were interested in exploring the world of Harry Potter. Other students were interested in food and shopping. Everyone walked a lot, enjoyed the underground, and arrived back in good time.
Day 6: 3.19 (Sun)
On Sunday, students finally got to explore Cambridge city centre. Before coming to Japan, we walked through the city centre using ‘street view’ on Google Maps. Today was a chance to see some key places for real. The photo treasure hunt was designed to give everyone a basic understanding of where everything is. After this, students will be free to visit the city centre whenever they want. Cambridge city centre is very compact, and in a small area, you have shops, parks, university buildings, gardens, churches, and much more.
In the afternoon, we visited Fitzwilliam Museum. It has historical displays from ancient Egypt onwards, and a good mix of sculptures, paintings, and ornaments, from all over the world and from different time periods. Students are always excited to see pieces of art that they have seen in their textbooks.
A great weekend and a great start to the trip. From Monday morning, students will have a full week of classes with few after school activities to enjoy!
