October 19 (Thur): London
Today was a trip to London. In preparation for the trip, back in Japan, students got into groups, did their research, and planned out their day.
As a bonus, this year, half the students chose to join Mr. Takakura and visit Central St Martin’s University. This university is one of the six University of Arts London (UAL) colleges. Students got to walk around the facilities and ask questions about the different courses and pathways available. A very valuable experience!
These students then joined other students as they explored London. The start of the day was rainy, and it was forecast to rain all day, but luckily, the weather cleared up, and the afternoon was quite pleasant. Overall, there was lots of walking, shopping, exploring, and photos.
October 20 (Fri): King’s College Chapel
The morning started with students reflecting on their personal projects and their day in London. After class, the regular students said goodbye to their teacher, Tarsila. From next week, a new teacher, Lana, will be taking over the group.
In the afternoon, we all went to King’s College in the centre of town. We were able to enter the grounds, and then walk around King’s Chapel. Students were amazed by the architecture, the amazing stained glass windows, and the history. Once again, the rain cleared up by the time we left the Chapel, and students could leave via the back exit, enjoying more of the college grounds.
October 21 (Sat): Brighton
Today’s trip to Brighton started off with more heavy rain. On arriving in Brighton, we made our way to the Royal Pavilion. Students braved their way through the rain, and we arrived at the home of King George IV. It was a pleasant walk around the Pavilion (and a nice break from the rain). As with London, by the end of the day, the sun came out. Typical of British weather, there were still showers throughout the day, but by the end, students had enjoyed fish and chips, been around the shops, and explored Brighton Pier. Altogether a great day.
October 22 (Sun): Free time in Cambridge
Today is a free day in Cambridge. Students will hopefully be exploring the town, shopping, working on their projects, and more. I’m excited to hear more about it next week.
Next week, students will start to focus on a group project. There will be a couple more events, and some more free time to work on their personal projects. Let’s hope the weather stays like it was on Sunday (beautiful sunshine all day), and not like it was on Saturday morning!
