Blog Post 2: A week of classes and activities
After taking their tests and settling into their classes, the first week of Cambridge has been filled with study and activities.
Day 4: Lessons + Bowling
After classes, we all went bowling. There were three teams, and they played two games. After a busy week of tests, then travel, and then another test, it was fun to see everyone relaxed and having fun. I always find that bowling on the first Tuesday is a good chance to reset! After bowling, some students ate out. Unfortunately, they chose Wagamama – a Japanese-fu restaurant.
Day 5: Lessons + Scones and Tea
After classes today, there was a short activity at Bell. They provided some scones with clotted cream and jam – delicious! Other Bell students joined this activity, so it was fun to see many students together. Afterward, some students jumped on a bus into the city centre.
Day 6: Lessons + Sculpting + Play
Today’s after-school activity was sculpting. Some students joined in here, while others headed to Bell’s game room. The game room has table tennis, table football, a pool table, darts, and other games. If you don’t feel like going home or going into town, this is a nice place to hang out.
Day 7: Morning lessons + King’s College Chapel
Friday classes in Bell are only held in the morning. After a quick lunch, students took the bus into town, and we all met at King’s College. This is a historical chapel with amazing features. It truly is the most iconic site in Cambridge, and it’s great to go inside and see some of the history up close. After this, there was free time to do some shopping (hopefully not spending too much money!).
Day 8: London!👑💂🏰🎡
Awesome day. After arriving in London, we took a short tour, taking photos at the London Eye, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Parliament, and Trafalgar Square. Students then went off on their pre-planned itineraries. Most started with lunch at an afternoon tea restaurant in central London, then it was time to explore!
Day 9: Brighton 🏖️
Another great day (if we forget the weather). After a smooth ride down to the south coast, we arrived in Brighton at around 11:15. We pointed out a few key places, and then headed to the Royal Pavilion. The mix of Chinese and Indian decor makes this a very unique building. After a little taste of history, it was off to taste some fish and chips! After lunch, there was free time to explore. There’s the amusement park on Brighton Pier, but I think that most went shopping or just walking around and exploring the area.
One more week of classes, and more activities this coming week! Good luck, everyone. The second week usually flies by 🙁
